Student Captures People's Important Expressions After They're Called Beautiful

How would you react if you were called beautiful by a stranger? Watch these important reactions of joy, blushes, and even anger which show the beauty in every human.

Shea Glover, a student at Chicago High school for the Arts began conducting an independent project at her high school, which quickly turned into an important social experiment. The project was to capture what her friends, peers and faculty members felt after being told simply, "I'm recording what I find beautiful". Glover would initially ask them to pose for a picture for her project and then catch them off guard with the kind words. Reactions range from bashfulness, to confusion, and even to anger, highlighting how important it is to appreciate and acknowledge the beauty in others rather than internalising it. It should not be a surprising thing to be called beautiful, it should not make you angry in disbelief, but instead it should make you feel happy.

The video posted on YouTube by Glover in May, 2015, has since reached over 15 million views. The comments, obviously showcasing both the negativity and positivity towards the experiment altogether highlight what a person's definition of "beauty" really is. The video shows how so many people go through their whole lives, never being called beautiful and thinking the same which is not a pleasant feeling and is just wrong. Beauty comes in so many different forms and I think this video really shows that it has not just one definition, and it is very important to acknowledge it. One simple comment can make or break a stranger or a friend's entire day!

My favourite reactions really show Glover's end lines, "There is so much beauty in the world, if you blink, you'll miss it". The reactions clearly goes to show the importance of one statement about the perception of beauty, showing an important and different take on how individuals in modern societies perceive themselves, and how the simple compliment can really make or break the self-esteem of others.
