Meanwhile in Toronto, a challenge laid out by a Canadian musician has been accepted by students at a high school in order to stop bullying altogether through random acts of kindness by posting positive post-it notes on lockers all over the school.
"It was amazing. The kids were really taken aback a bit at first because it was new, they had never seen it before. They weren’t sure what it’s there for and then they compared each other and they realized that everyone had a unique one.”
The challenge was a 30-day experiment named "Say My Name Canada" created by Glenn Marais - originally meant to coincide with Pink Shirt Day but was extended to a month. Parents, teachers and organisations had become increasingly concerned with school bullying over the past few years after the recent tragedies of Rehteah Parsons and Amanda Todd.
However this experiment is proving successful as one grade-9 student mentions it is working as kids leave the stickers up to compare and explore the messages written. The stickers were also being posted on social media, racking up more than 30,000 mentipns online.
"It feels good that we did something that had that big of an impact, Other students thought it was a great idea too as it relieved some of their stress from exams."
